Cartoon Shorties Night is the 10th episode of Season 6 of Baby Lamb & Friends and the 95th episode overall. It premiered on November 29, 2021.

Summary[]

In a House of Mouse-esque parody and tribute, Baby Lamb and the gang host a floor show where other webtoon characters come to watch. Everyone has a part in making this night memorable, but Alice feels left out and wants to contribute.

Plot[]

In Downtown Capitol City, a nightclub is shown where a lot of OCs are coming to an event called "Cartoon Shorties Night". The announcer introduces Baby Lamb, who is the host of the show and tells the audience about the musical events, cartoon shorts, and a surprise musical duet with himself and a special friend to end the night.

Backstage, the Lamb Gang talk about what to do for the night while Ricky thinks the whole event is familiar. But Belle tells Baby Lamb that he's on, and so Baby Lamb introduces the first cartoon.

The first cartoon ends, and the 60047 police crew are shown also attending the event. Chief Mark is in disbelief that The Lamb Gang can pull off the night and thinks it's gonna be a train-wreck. Derek says he likes trains, summoning a random train. Meanwhile, Alice is feeling down and Cow wonders what's wrong. Alice says she heard about the surprise musical duet and she hopes that it's her, because she always wanted to sing. Cow thinks she should ask Baby Lamb, and Alice considers that as Baby Lamb introduces the second cartoon.

After the second cartoon, Baby Lamb was about to present The Wiggles but they were busy somewhere else so instead he got some imitators of The Wiggles to take their place. Mejax and Bill comment on how all 4 of those imitators look the same, and Mejax thinks Australians invented cloning. Onstage, Baby Lamb says how hard it is to get motivated so he then introduces world-famous motivational speaker Matt Foley. He tells the audience about his life (same manner as in the original SNL sketches) and invites Uncle Lamb onstage to tell everyone what he wants to do with his life. Uncle Lamb says he works at a balloon factory but then says how much he wants to be a video game developer. Matt proceeds to shut down Uncle Lamb and then says that he isn't going to amount to "JACK SQUAT!", making Uncle Lamb awkwardly leave the stage. Baby Lamb then proceeds to tell Matt he said enough, and so Matt leaves the stage to eat expired popcorn. Baby Lamb then introduces the third cartoon, which is about video games.

Back at the club, Alice decides to ask Baby Lamb who's gonna be performing with Baby Lamb in the duet. Baby Lamb says it's a surprise, but Ricky thinks he's gonna sing with Belle (mockingly calling her his "girlfriend"). A fanboy then randomly appears and asks Baby Lamb if he wants to check out his Baby Lamb X Belle fanfics, and then Baby Lamb calls security before the fanboy left. Ricky then reminds Baby Lamb to introduce the fourth cartoon, to which he does.

After the cartoon finished, Cow serves a cheeseburger to a table, to which they comment on the irony of a cow serving a burger. Cow, however, is oblivious to that irony. Belle then asks Cow where his little brother, Calf, is and Cow says he's busy parking cars. Belle is shocked because Calf is only three, which leads to Calf crashing the Neighborhood Trolley through the wall. Everyone else comes and notices the damage and how much it's going to cost. Cassandra Cat (in her surprise debut appearance), tells Baby Lamb a rumor that a character never introduced before is gonna make an unexpected appearance. Baby Lamb thinks it's her, and then she realizes it is. Belle then tells Baby Lamb to get back to the stage because everyone is waiting for him to introduce the fifth and final cartoon.

Back onstage, Baby Lamb says how happy he is that everyone has been enjoying the cartoons and then introduces Simon A. himself, who performs a song about farmers on his piano and also on the guitar. Afterward, Roger Rex shows up backstage and reveals to The Lamb Gang that he owns the building they're using for Cartoon Shorties Night, saying it used to be a strip club (specifically, a club dedicated to eating chicken strips), but it got shut down and abandoned after a lawsuit. Nevertheless, Roger threatens to shut down the show if The Lamb Gang doesn't pay for everything, including the hole in the wall caused by the Trolley. Belle says the show must go on, so Baby Lamb decided to give the crowd what they're waiting for and invites Alice to perform the surprise musical duet with him. Alice is surprised, but Baby Lamb knows how much she wanted to sing and didn't want her to be left out. However, Alice doesn't know what they're gonna say but Baby Lamb assures her that it'll be easy to learn.

Without any further delay, the two took to the stage and begin performing "No Matter What". Meanwhile, the Copyright Police show up and infiltrate the building backstage as they're wanted for over 100,000 cases of copyright infringement and chaos ensued. But Baby Lamb and Alice were able to finish performing and got a huge applause from the audience. Alice was very happy and Baby Lamb says they should do this again, but the rest of The Lamb Gang decided not to do it again after waiting 4 years to pull this off. So Baby Lamb transitions to the commercial sponsoring the event, and Baby Lamb and the rest of his friends sign off and thanks the audience for celebrating with them.

Trivia[]

  • This episode pays tribute to Disney's House of Mouse, one of Simon A.'s favorite animated shows.
    • 2021 also marks the 20th anniversary of House of Mouse.
  • This episode is in celebration of the show's 95th episode.
    • It was originally going to be in celebration of the show's 75th episode but due to personal obligations and the coronavirus pandemic, the episode was delayed.
    • It's also in celebration of Baby Lamb Creations' 5th Anniversary and also the 5th Anniversary of Baby Lamb & Friends.
  • The opening and closing titles for this episode are made by Brendan Barney, back in 2017. Brendan also came up with the title and original concept for the episode until Simon decided to turn it into a parody of House of Mouse.
    • The Baby Lamb Creations logo at the beginning replaces Baby Lamb's face with that of the Metro Goldwyn-Mayer Lion from the Tom & Jerry shorts, which is what Brendan based the opening and closing titles off of.
  • This is the first episode to be completely scripted while An Old Friend Returns is the second, in production order.
  • Characters from "CartoonMania" were originally planned to appear in this episode as cameos but after the controversy involving Matthew Littlemore (the creator of CartoonMania) in 2020, no characters from it appeared.
Cartoon Shorties Night
  • This is the first episode to debut the character Cassandra Cat, who is voiced by Kiersten Seethaler.
  • This is the first ever episode that does not have any scenes at The House. The whole episode takes place at a CGI nightclub in Downtown Capitol City, made with Sketchup.
    • As a result, the Neighborhood Trolley is also CGI and not live-action like usual.
  • This episode was appropriately released on November 29, 2021, which is Simon A.'s 19th birthday (and also Baby Lamb's birthday).
    • It was originally going to be released on November 28 but because of a delay involving production of one of the shorts, it got pushed to the day after.
  • The only music Simon A. provided for the episode is his piano accompaniment during his performance of "The Farmer's Song", in which he lip-syncs to the actual song. According to Simon himself, he was originally going to sing with his real voice but he didn't want to butcher the song (that and Simon felt weird singing with his actual voice, knowing that he voiced a lot of characters for the episode).
  • The scene with Matt Foley is an obvious tribute to the late Chris Farley and his Saturday Night Live sketches as Matt Foley.
    • After Matt Foley left the stage, there was laughing heard in the background. That was unintentionally from Simon A., who genuinely laughed after voicing Matt Foley for the sketch and so he wanted to keep it in.
  • This episode features a combination of CGI backgrounds, 2D animation for the OC cameos, and the usual paper puppet style of Baby Lamb and his friends.
  • The "Random Romeo" short shown in this episode was actually 1/3 of the actual short as it was unfinished at the time it was shown. But Simon used some editing to make it a complete short on its own.
  • In the background of the nightclub, there are portraits of famous people or other subjects related to Simon and his content, which include:
    • A picture of Elton John and Billy Joel together
    • A picture of Adam Sandler and Chris Farley together
    • A picture of Rob Paulsen and Tom Kenny together
    • A picture of Simon A. dressed as Steve from Blue's Clues holding a letter which has Steve Burns himself.
    • A digital portrait of Simon A.
    • A picture of Jack Sullivan (Xplodin Apple).
    • A drawing of Lawrence Sorenstein, a scrapped villain from Lagartimations' scrapped animated adaptation of Baby Lamb & Friends. He was drawn and designed by Kris Valdespino.
  • When Belle was shocked that Calf is parking cars despite being 3, her voice sounded raspy. That is because at the time of production for this episode, Cameron J. Green had a sore throat while voicing Belle.
  • When Derek says that he likes trains, a random train came speeding through the building. This is an obvious reference to the running gag from Tomska's asdfmovies featuring the "I Like Trains" kid.
  • The Lamb Gang was wanted by The Copyright Police for over 100,000 cases of copyright infringement, being both a reference to Baby Lamb Creations reaching 100,000 subscribers in 2021 and also the channel having a history of copyright claims.
  • Because of the success of this episode during premiere night as well as the long anticipation, it is now Simon A.'s most favorite episode in the series to have made.

Errors[]

  • Because the paper puppets were filmed with a green screen, the inner parts of Belle's wings are transparent.
