Baby Lamb & Friends Wiki

Baby Lamb & Friends (often abbreviated as BLAF) is a YouTube plush comedy web-series created by Simon A. of Baby Lamb Creations. The series released the premiere of its first episode on YouTube on April 29, 2016 and currently contains a total of 9 seasons, over 100 episodes, 25 shorts, and a feature-length movie.

Synopsis

The series involves a young and happy-go-lucky little sheep named Baby Lamb as well as his colorful and unique friends: including his best friend Cow McMoo, the sweet and bubbly Belle Butterfly, wisecracking Ricky Bowers, wise Donny Dolphin, and tough-as-nails Alice Pollenia, and sassy Cassandra Cat. All of them live in the random fictional town of Capitol City, where they tend to get into random situations and even learn important life lessons about themselves and the world around them. The show uses a mixture of live-action and animation as well as plush toys, "paper puppets", LEGO mini-figures, and others.

The Making of the Series

Every single episode of "Baby Lamb & Friends" is made and produced with iMovie. Initially, the first 5 episodes were shot on an iPhone 4. Eventually, it was switched to an iPad or an iPad mini from mid-2016 to mid-2020. Afterwards, episode are currently recorded on an iPhone 11. The first 38 episodes were all shot and edited with the mobile iMovie app, but following Baby Lamb Creations' switch to iMovie for iOS in early 2017, episodes afterward are still recorded with the iMovie mobile app but are currently edited with iMovie for iOS. The designs for some of the characters were originally hand-drawn on paper in Season 1. But in early Season 3 they were digitally drawn with Sketchpad, and in late Season 3 to present, they are digitally drawn with the AnimationCreator app which Simon A. currently uses for character designs, animations, and other drawings.

Film

Main Article: Baby Lamb & Friends: The Movie

Originally, there were plans to make a film adaptation of Baby Lamb & Friends and a video announcement was made in 2016 promoting the movie, but eventually, due to time constraints as well as recording issues, the idea was canned. 3 years later, on May 4, 2019, Baby Lamb Creations announced on Twitter and on YouTube that "Baby Lamb & Friends: The Movie" is officially in development and is said to be released summer of 2019. However, due to personal obligations that delayed the initial deadline, the movie was delayed. A sneak peek was uploaded on June 29, 2019, and the first official trailer was released on September 15, 2019. Another trailer was uploaded on October 26, 2019, and the third and final trailer was uploaded on November 4, 2019. The movie features the 6 main characters, some new characters, special guest roles from various YouTubers, and it is shot in Cinemascope.

The movie itself premiered on November 9, 2019.

Comics

On April 29, 2021 (the day of Baby Lamb & Friends' 5th anniversary), it was announced that Baby Lamb & Friends would be getting its own official comic series, made by a series of artists and writers. On July 19, 2021, a series of comic strips based on the show started and was publicly posted on an official Twitter account solely for the comics, @LambComic. Over a year later, on June 4, 2023, an Instagram account (@babylambcomics) was created also for the purpose of posting the Baby Lamb comic strips.

Trivia

  • Some episodes, such as "First Day of Spring", "Duck of Steel", and "I Like Brains", were archived recordings from 2013-2016 (the pre-YouTube era), and were also shot with a Sony camcorder instead of on an iPad via iMovie. That also explains the change in the characters' voices.
  • Baby Lamb & Friends drew inspiration from the popular YouTube series Angry Birds Craptastic Adventures, which Simon has watched as a child prior to making his own web series. It is also inspired by another YouTube web series, SuperMarioLogan.
    • Interestingly, Xplodin Apple, the co-creator of Angry Birds Craptastic Adventures, made a guest-appearance in the episode "DisneyLamb" as Studder McStudderpants.
  • After the release of Episode 48, "Another Egg-stravagant Easter" on April 16, 2017, the series went on a long hiatus for 6 months until the release of "I Like Brains" on October 22, 2017.
  • In recent months, users have often made assumptions of Baby Lamb & Friends and put it on the same level as other webtoons such as CartoonMania. While the characters from the show have been used in animations and comics have been made, Simon A. has made it clear that Baby Lamb & Friends itself is not a webtoon in any shape or form.
  • The show started off with Simon A. doing everything until, as the series progressed, he got other voice actors, writers, and artists involved and made the show bigger than before.
  • Due to Simon A. putting his main focus on college and making other content, less episodes of the show have been released. However, Simon has no plans on ending the series.
  • In spite of the show's friendly appearance, Simon allows some swearing (mostly to avoid YouTube marking it as "For Kids").
  • A parody of the show existed at one point called Black Lamb Boi & Friends. However, it was deleted as of 2022 due to the original creator being revealed as a groomer.
